We Speak Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council was created for the purpose of receiving youth feedback in order to enhance and improve Juvenile Diversion programming and initiatives.

About the Council:

The Youth Advisory Council was created for the purpose of receiving youth feedback in order to enhance and improve Juvenile Diversion programming and initiatives. YAC is a paid opportunity and offers the chance to uplift youth voices and make an impact in the community. Youth voices and input are essential for creating a safer Philadelphia, as young people often have firsthand knowledge of the challenges their communities face. When youth are included in decision-making, they bring fresh ideas and solutions that adults might overlook. Empowering young voices builds trust and ensures that programs and policies truly meet the needs of all young people across the city.

Participation in YAC includes:

  • Three youth council training sessions focused on community building, public speaking, and advocacy.
  • Four "Know Your Rights" training sessions, which will include interviews and surveys at various diversion program sites, co-facilitated by We Speak council members.
  • Co-planning and attending a We Speak outing.
  • One training session with We Speak council members for the "Live Free: Civic Engagement and Media Literacy" training
